Why support cannabis?

Ae. First -- you have been a member of HEMP for years. Then you joined LCWA as soon as it was formed. Does this mean that you support the use of cannabis?

N. Oh no. I think that using cannabis is dangerous. There is too little known of its effects

Ae. So why are you a party member. Even a party supporter.

N. Because I believe in freedom of choice.

I do not support use of cannabis. But I do support the right of other people to choose.

Ae. That sounds stupid.

N. Stupid? perhaps. But I also support the right of people to choose to use tobacco. And alcohol. And even nangs, if people are stupid enough to try them.

All of those -- cannabis, tobacco, nangs, alcohol -- should be legal.

Ae. Legal and free for everyone to use?

N. Not at all. Alcohol and tobacco are free to use -- but controlled. Society is able to allow use but to manage some of the worst effects. We need the same choice -- and management -- for cannabis.

We allow freedom of choice for tobacco, with its harmful effects, and for nangs and alcohol.

By making them legal -- we are able to manage these addictive drugs. When a drug is legal, it can be safely managed.

I believe that cannabis needs to be legal. I do not support the use of cannabis. I support the freedom to choose.
